Things to Do this Weekend in Detroit

There’s still time to get into the holiday spirit with all the different events going on. Here’s a lineup of things to do between December 19 – 22.

Thursday, December 19

5 PM – Evening Holiday Market at Eastern Market, 2934 Russell Street

Friday, December 20

8 PM – This Wonderful Life, A One Man Show at Spread Art, 5141 Rosa Parks Boulevard
Ken Falkenhagen inhabits 30-plus characters in this one-man retelling the Frank Capra holiday classic. From everyman George Bailey to evil old Mr. Potter, Clarence, and the dotty angel, it’s a weird and wonderful reworking of the story about the effect that one hard-working man’s life has on the people around him. Saturday, December 21

10 AM – See The D Walking Tour at City Tour Detroit, One Campus Martius (Meet by Santa’s cabin)
Downtown walking tour features art, architecture, new developments and more. It’s especially festive as you take in all the seasonal activities taking place downtown on this 2.5 hour tour. Ticketed event.

12 Noon – Parker’s Alley Winter Weekends at Parker’s Alley behind Shinola Hotel
Visit the festively decorated retail and dining destination perfect for families and shoppers from noon until 2 pm. Enjoy carols performed by the Detroit Actors Theater Company sing carols. Enjoy free* giveaways from the following Parker’s Alley retailers while supplies last: free Hot Chocolate or Chai from Madcap Coffee and free ice cream from Huddle. Lots of holiday greenery and cute rustic rocking chairs make great photo op stops.

2 PM – Santa Skate at Frankenmuth Rink, Campus Martius Park

Sunday, December 2

10 AM – Final Holiday Market at Eastern Market, 2934 Russell St, Detroit, Michigan 48207

12 Noon – Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker, Fox Theatre, 2211 Woodward Avenue

3 PM – First Annual Christmas Choir Musical at Nazarene Michigan Baptist Church, 901 Melbourne Street
Fellowship with the awesome churches of the North End community: Affirming Love Ministry, Second Mount Zion of the Apostolic Faith Church, Greater Ephesian Baptist Church, Nazarene Missionary Baptist Church. Potluck meal served in Fellowship Hall following the choir performances. Free. Open to the public.

4:30 PM – Menorah in the D at Campus Martius Park
9th Annual Lighting of the Menorah in the D. Entertainment and refreshments begin at 4:30 pm followed by Menorah lighting at 5 pm. Family friend event includes complimentary soup and cider, marshmallow roasting, face painting, games, Dancing Dreidels, Dreidel mascot, and more. More details(opens in a new tab)

Monday, December 23

9:30 PM – Twas the Night / R & B Karaoke at Granite City inside the Renaissance Center
