See The D: Aaron Foley's Detroit
Saturday, September 30, 2017 | 9:30 A – 3:30 P | $68
Depart/Return: Meijer, 21431 Grand River Avenue, Detroit 48219. (Located between Evergreen and Lahser. Park in NW corner of lot near police station and away from store entrances)
See the D through the eyes of guest tour guide Aaron Foley and discover the 132-square miles of Detroit beyond the oft-touted Downtown and Midtown neighborhoods. Join the author of the informative, humorous and somewhat snarky How To Live In Detroit Without Being A Jackass as he takes us to some of his favorite eastside/westside neighborhoods and talks up the unique identity, history, sense of community, and entrepreneurial spirit of each.
He’ll share the stories of passionate and resilient longtime residents, business owners and community organizations who’ve quietly made differences within their own neighborhoods and continue to do so – but whose contributions are often overlooked or ignored in favor of the latest newcomer story.
Mr. Foley, recently hired by the City of Detroit as its first chief storyteller, has written about Detroit for several local and national publications including CNN, Jalopnik, and MLive. His popular essay “We Love Detroit, Even if You Don't” appeared in A Detroit Anthology. The former editor of the BLAC magazine is editor of a newly released publication: The Detroit Neighborhood Guidebook.
Not only does Detroit native Aaron Foley write about the city, he still lives here - thereby elevating his street cred to a level unmatched by most others telling the city’s story.
Tour price includes transportation via motor coach, guest narration, lunch, snacks, prizes (study up on your Detroit trivia).
