Are you a true crime addict? Interested in Detroit police history? Excited by the thought of exploring old buildings, especially ones that were once abandoned? Are ghosts your thing? Does just thinking about going inside an allegedly haunted building give you the chills? If so, then the Haunted 6th Precinct Tour is for you.

If walls could talk, what stories would this 1930s-era Detroit police precinct have to tell? Lots, that’s for sure!

For over 75 years, the former 6th Precinct, also known as “The McGraw Station,” saw its share of murder, mayhem, corruption, gangsters, graft, civil unrest, and more. From unspeakable crimes to nefarious and/or notorious outlaws, the former 6th has seen it all.

The 6th Precinct offers up much more than fascinating crime history! Dozens of paranormal groups claim sinister spirits lurk within. These groups have witnessed unexplained phenomena such as touching by unseen entities, flying stones, unattributed whistling noises, temperature changes, disembodied voices and footsteps, etc. Who is Billy? Is he a child or demon, and why does he haunt the 6th?

Find out for yourself why experienced paranormal investigators and previous tour attendees have described the 6th Precinct as “haunted, terrifying, the scariest place ever” and home to “entities of evil intent.”

Now, you can tour this former Detroit police precinct and jail that’s been featured in the Horror Behind Bars episode of the popular Travel Channel show “Most Terrifying Places.” View episode here(opens in a new tab) (opens in a new tab).

What to expect: An engaging,1.5 hour history tour with emphasis on precinct police and criminal activity plus a few reported accounts of paranormal activity. After the tour, enjoy an included refreshment break and 30 minutes to explore the building on your own. Feel free to download your favorite ghost tracking app or bring your own ghost hunting equipment and see what activity you pick up.

If you’re looking for a more intense paranormal investigation, sign up for the Night In Jail(opens in a new tab) tour.

  • Your patronage supports tech entrepreneur Ed Steele in his efforts give new life to this once beautiful building that was vacated, ransacked by scrappers, and left open to the elements.
  • Tours begin promptly at scheduled times. Due to our small staff, we may not be able to accommodate latecomers.
  • Free, well-lit street parking is available on the street adjacent and behind the precinct. City Tour Detroit and Historic 6th Precinct Restoration Project are not responsible for any loss or damage to vehicles or contents.
  • This is a historic precinct tour, not a haunted house. The facility may be dimly lit for ambiance, but there will be no gruesome vignettes or people jumping out to scare you. It’s creepy enough, already!
  • While the building structure is solid, the interior was stripped by scrappers when it was closed in 2005, so don’t expect a finished interior filled with beautiful architectural elements.
  • The heating system in this 26,000 square foot building is limited. If it’s cold outside, it will be cold inside. Dress appropriately.
  • While we can relay the stories of ghosts and unexplained phenomena, we can’t guarantee the appearance of ghosts or other supernatural entities. They don’t always like to appear on command.
  • All attendees will be required to sign liability waivers and media/photo releases before entering the building.
  • No admission to those who are under the influence of alcohol or drugs or are unruly.
  • No weapons allowed.
  • Covid guidelines will be enforced, so please wait in your car until 30 minutes prior to tour start time. Social distancing and mask wearing will be enforced.
